HOW SHORT IS SHORT?

The “farmer Doriety” in this story is my Uncle Hubert. I have never seen a human being work so hard in my life! He broke his back (a refrigerator accident going up some stairs) and we worried if he’d ever work again – but after a healing period and despite the pain, which he carried the rest of his life, he got up at the crack of dawn every day except Sunday and got on his tractor and got to it! Looking back, I have no idea how he did it, except he needed to feed his family… I’ve always been a great admirer his. The farmer’s life I saw as a kid (doing my piddly work on the farm) was enough to convince me to be an artist!
